Swine Flu

It’s already August 2009; let’s try to recall back what the incident that affects you the most? For me, it will be the influenza A – H1N1. As I know, swine flu is a new influenza virus causing illness in people. It was first detected in people in the United States in April 2009, and has reported that people in another countries such as Mexico, Canada and including Malaysia is sick with this new virus. This virus is spreading from person to person, probably in same way that regular seasonal influenza viruses spread.

The symptoms of H1N1 flu virus in people are fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. A significant number of people who have been infected with this virus also have reported diarrhea and vomiting. Also, like seasonal flu, severe illnesses and death has occurred as a result of illness associated with this virus.

This problem is getting serious and serious whereas some of the primary and secondary school have closed down for a week to prevent the virus to be spread because some case has been reported from there. However, the only thing we can do to prevent such terrible virus happen to us is complete all the precaution that been list out by the World Health Organization (WHO):

  • avoid touching your mouth and nose;
  • clean hands thoroughly with soap and water, or cleanse them with an alcohol-based hand rub on a regular basis (especially if touching the mouth and nose, or surfaces that are potentially contaminated);
  • avoid close contact with people who might be ill;
  • reduce the time spent in crowded settings if possible;
  • improve airflow in your living space by opening windows;
  • practice good health habits including adequate sleep, eating nutritious food, and keeping physically active.

Please take care of yourself and the other as well!!

PREVENT BETTER THAN CURE
