Having read Prof Dr Nor Hashimah Jalaludin commentary on this newaspaper today(berita harian,Oct 23)'Why PPSMI reversal makes sense',i concede that for the benefit of the majority of the students expecially those in rural areas,it makes sense for Science and Mathemathics to be taught in their mother language.However there are several points I disagree with.

She stated that having English and Malay medium schools divided our nation into separate halves,creating a very wide gap and that one of the main reasons for the use of Bahasa Malaysia as the single medium of instruction in schools was to unite Malaysians.Unfortunately,Bahasa Malaysia has failed to unite Malaysians because our school system is not only divided into halves but also consists of Chinese -Tamil medium school.Therefore why not have english medium schools for those who wish it,expecially in urban areas.She also said there was a wide gap between English and Malay medium schools of the past.

Is she then suggesting that English medium schools should not be allowed to exist as the children there would progress farther and faster than those in Malay medium schools?

Malaysia hopes to attract foreigners to invest here or award jobs to Malaysian companies looking to venture overseas.

We have professionals who are competent in their respectives technical fields,but many are unable to communicate well in english.Does that make good bussines?would foreigners want to hire or work with people that they have difficulty understanding?She also stated that the decline in the command of english has nothing to do with the use of Bahasa Malaysia as the medium of instructuon for science and mathematics in schools.That may be true,but to improve English proficiency you must get students to think,explain and communicate in English.

One of the problems associated with the implementation of PPSMI is in the inability of science and mathematics teacher,who were taught and trained in Bahasa Malaysia to make the switch to English.I am not saying that teachers are not good enough but it creates difficulties to them to teach science and mathematics in Eglish.I always believe that PPSMI should not be reversed as it brings so much of benefits to our generation.

Clean environment please!!!

Have you ever thought of by picking up garbage and dog droppings you receive a reward from that?? I doubt that anyone has think of that because even myself also don't think so. But after reading an article on this I believe that there is a reward for that!!!I was stunt when I was reading this article!!InTaiwan, the Environmental Protection Bureau in central Taichung City said it is offering a gift voucher of 100 Taiwan dollars (about RM10) for one kilogram (two pounds) of dog excrement. Not only that the bureau is also giving vouchers for picking up plastic, paper and Styrofoam cups as well as plastic bags.Don't you think is a great deal??You can be rewarded when you helping to clean the environment!Some might think that RM10 is not a big deal but the satisfaction that you get is hard to describe by words. Can you imagine that how clean can the environment be if everyone is doing this? I think that the streets will be free from garbage and everybody will feel happy and satisfied with the clean environment they have it.If our environment is clean, people doesn't prone to fall sick. Bacteria is hard to spread under a clean environment. If tourists sees that our country is so clean, they will feel safe while traveling in our country. They might even praised and tell their friends about the cleanliness in our country. More investor will come to our country to invest after seeing the effort that has been done by the people and the authorities in our country. Our economic will be boost up.The parents will allow their children to play at the park and outdoor if the environment is clean. They will encourage their children to do more outdoor activity by then.Actually to achieve a clean environment is not that hard if everybody would co-operate to help to clean our environment. Firstly, don't throw rubbish to anywhere you like. Don't spit wherever you like. Teacher and parents should be the role model for the students and children. Educating the new generation about the important of cleanliness is important.They will understand and know the importance of cleanliness if they were properly educated. Can you imagine if you are walking down the street and the street is full of garbage?What will your feelings be?Some people might think that if I don't do my part it doesn't make any difference.This is wrong perception!!!Due to this perception,it might make a drastic change to our environment. If everyone thinks this way, then we will never enjoy a clean environment.Please think for the future.Think twice before you litter anywhere.

Terengganu government had offer a free trip to warring couples!!Under this plan, the feuding couple can enjoy 3 days 2 nights stay in tropical island of Terengganu states. Do you know how much does this cost???This is worth Rm1500 for just 3 days 2 nights stay!!!Why is the Terengganu government doing this?? This is because they wanted to strengthen family ties. If a marriage breaks down, it will hurt the children and it will have serious implications on society. Why many newly wedding couple choosing divorce as their last resolution?? What is the problem that make them to choose divorce as their last resolution??Among them are financial issues and problems related to their in-laws.Before marriage, all was good. But after marriage, some are unable to cope with the new challenges. Before married, your husband or wife may call you darling or honey or sweetie,but right after married they might even just call their spouse by their name or just wei or eh. We can see that the drastic change before and after married. After married, husband and wife are busy concentrating on their career. For those who had children, one might focus on taking of the family while the other might focus on their career.After whole day working, house is a place for their tired soul to rest. So even in the same room they might not talk to each other because of too tired or maybe they don't have a common topic to talk. Soon on later, they had adapted to this kind of lifestyle where they only talk when necessary. When a problem occurs, they will blame on the other one. This is the time where they start to quarrel and they found that their spouse had a drastic change. They found out that this is not the one I knew before marriage. Then they will think whether are they still suitable to stay under the same roof after all. They choose divorce because soon on later they found that this would be the best resolution for both of them. They might feel relief but what about the children? What will they feel? If their children is young it actually will leave an impact in their heart. They will think that maybe is their fault or they might wondering why is my parents are separated. How the parents should answer these kind of question when their children ask them?? Have the parents think of the impact that will be in their children heart if they choose to divorce? If you know that this is not the right person, why bother to get married? When you choose to marry, this means that he or she is the one you want to live with forever not just because for the sake of marry. Some couples marry after knowing each other for few months and when they get married they only found out that they are not suitable for each other.There are cases where the couples know each other for quite some time but they also end up divorce. If you don't know the person character well and you know you can't tolerate it,please think twice before you want to marry.The proposal maybe very romantic and very touch but then it doesn't mean that he is the one you are supposed to marry.Can you imagine when you step into a primary classroom, there are at least 2 students parents is divorce?? Imagine if 20 years later,it might turn out to 70% of the students parents is divorce!! Parents and couple soon to be marry please think properly the impact and also whether is it necessary for you to do that. You spend money when you get married and you spend money when you divorce.Is it worth it after all?Where is all the sweet memories you all have together?Where is the hardship when you two been through? Doesn't all these memories makes you to choose him or her as your spouse? I hope that the divorce rate will decrease to the minimum in future even though it is hard to achieve.I can't imagine what the society will become if the divorce rate increase rapidly in future.

FAMILY OR FRIEND? FROM THE SCOPE OF REVOLT TEENS

Do you realize that sometimes in your life, you have to decide whether to choose your family or your friend. This situation usually occurs among teenagers because in this stage of life teens often to spare more of their time with their friends. I would like to share about how actually this thing can appear in anybody’s life without their intention to get into it.

When you reach the teen ages, you often spent your time with your friends which means much less time with the family. Slowly, who’s you’re being friend with will be a part of yourself. If you were being friends with good ones, maybe you’ll be a good person too. But if you were being friend with the bad ones, maybe you will be a bad person too. But not all situations are like this. Back to the topic, when you were with your friend, you often think that what you were doing was right although it is actually wrong. You will also felt happy when you done something that against the good manners. Then you will develop the feel that you are old enough to make a decision for your life. This is the time that your family will get in your life. As a family should always do, your family will try to get you back into the line where you supposed to be. Then the situation of family or friend will occurs. Some of teens that lucky and strong enough to encounter this situation usually will choose the family instead of friend. This type of teen is actually still considering their future and their family’s feelings. But often, friends will win the situation as teens have created a barrier between family and their self. This situation next will increase the numbers of runaway teens and increasing the social problem in the country. So, ask yourself whether you will choose family or friends when you are in this situation. But remember, it always easier to said than done.

social networking - faceBOOK!

Social Networking, something that most teenagers addicted to.

I'll stress on Facebook because it was ranked as the most used social network by worldwide monthly active users in January 2009, research done by Compete.com. A bit about Facebook, it was a global social networking website that is operated and privately owned by Facebook Inc. Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roomates and fello computer science students Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hugheswhile he was a student at Harvard University.

Having a Facebook account is something worth in social life. By just logging in into the account, users can add friends and send them messages, and update their personal profiles to notify friends about themselves. Additionally, users can join networks organized by city, workplace, school, and region. The website's name stems from the colloquial name of books given at the start of the academic year by university administrations with the intention of helping students get to know each other better.

Facebook-ing is fun, but sometimes too much Facebook-ing can distract someone’s life. What I mean is, for example students, me myself, I think too much Facebook-ing makes me procrastinate to do what I have to do especially study. As a student law student to be exact, we ought to spent much time face the book not Facebook-ing. Most my friends keep complaining about too much Facebook-ing and sometimes even ask the Facebook to stay away from them (me too) but still, they keep opening their page, commenting on others and playing games, quiz and so on there. It was like there is a “Never Log Off” policy when you have a Facebook account.

I think having a Facebook account is not wrong, but it depends on how that person manage their time. Social Networking do give benefits to us. We can get more friends, discussing about problems in study and also express feelings. The most fundamental thing to do is have fun but at the same time, study. In the exam mood like now, it is actually doesn’t matter if students Facebook-ing 24 hours a day 7 days a week, as Facebook-ing can be a medium to discuss about subjects that we learn, for example Contract Law.

Again, I want to stress out that this social networking matter is subjective to talk about. Therefore, on whatever things I have listed down, one should do this –especially students - Facebook-ing while face the book.

The Cat Girl....

The Cat Girl…It is a true story…

Have you ever wondered, one day you realize that the small mole on you body that you thought as your birth mark turn bigger and furry day to day. Then, the weird mole now has conquered all part of your body until it make people think that is your skin and you find that you are being isolated by all of your friends. This is what happened to a poor girl from Fengkai, China. She is only six (6) years old but need to suffer from this mystery disease. Now, she is being tease and her friends keep calling her as “Cat Girl”.

At first her parents, Li Yan and Li Jiang thought that the mole that appears on Li Xiao Yuan’s back since several months ago is only birth mark of her daughter. But recently the mole has turn bigger and thick hair start growing on the mole. Both of the parents are really worried about what had just happened to their daughter. They also said that all of the children in their neighborhood starting to hate and isolated their daughter.

The parents have brought their daughter to see a doctor, but the doctor said that it just only a birth mark. But it is weird when the mole keeps getting bigger and furry day after day. The parents are so depressed and sad due to the physical condition of their daughter. Then, now they seek for medical treatment from a surgeon from Zhaoqing Dermatology Hospital, Dr Lou Zhongquan. The surgeon said that Xaioyuan maybe suffered from mysterious disease that trigger her mole to become bigger and causes the mole to produce the unstoppable fur growing.

According to the surgeon, the children can be treat by using laser treatment if only the mole is small but the problem now the mole has conquer half part of the child’s body. Moreover, it is difficult to use laser treatment to treat such a big area of mole because it will involve a long time treatment and highly cost. Although the surgeon said the child can undergo the operation to remove the mole but there is a risk to be considered. Unfortunately, the surgeon also said when the child undergo the operation maybe it can lead to the lost of life of the child because the operation can cause the unstoppable bleeding to the child. The situation has become so tense because there is no way can be found to treat the child.

I felt really sorry to this child because at the age of six, she need to suffer the mystery disease and hear all the insult that been make by her friend toward her. I believe that she is now so sad and depressed because her friends now keep calling her with the “Cat Girl” name and they seem to ignore her. I really hope that there a research can be make in order to find the cure for this disease. So that Xiaoyuan can life like she used to be before.

Banning Spree

You know, I think Malaysia is soon going to be famous for banning things.

Two weeks ago, the ministry of health threaten to ban preserved plums from china because those plums contained a high level of lead which could result in a woman being infertile. Now, that is what I call banning with a reasonable reason. If those preserved plums really contained such dangerous ingredient, then banning it would do well.

This week, the hype is on banning condoms and horror movies.

Let’s be reasonable, banning condoms? As it is the percentage of unwanted teenage pregnancy is high enough, imagine banning condoms! I am pretty sure, the percentage would rocket sky high. I am not saying I agree with promiscuous activities. No. I just think it’s better for those teenagers to practice safe sex rather than getting pregnant and later on dumping the child in dustbin, public toilets or burying them alive!

Besides that, condom is also a mean used to prevent sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Well, adults are no angels, some have multiple sleeping partners therefore the chances of contacting one of those diseases are definitely high. Besides that, it also a mean to prevent AIDS. Well, in a relationship, people do get intimate and I am pretty sure even people with AIDS are no exception therefore, condom is the answer. Even so, it’s not 100% safe. It is a risky thing.

So let’s just imagine without condom, percentage of unwanted teenage pregnancy would rocket sky high. Check. Percentage of promiscuous adults contacting STDs would rise. Check. Percentage of people contacting AIDS MIGHT go up, depending on the situation. Check. Oh, and last but not least, condoms are also used as a family planning method. So without it, our population would multiply like crazy so.. the percentage of population would rocket into space. Check.

I’ve named four negatives impact on banning condoms, name me four positives and I’ll call it even. Right now, I see negatives rather than positives.

Now as for horror movies, I totally DO NOT agree with banning them! I am a huge horror movie buff, banning it would definitely, definitely make me upset. I guess, horror movies does not educate people but tell me, does cicak man, jin notti or bohsia actually educate people? I think not.

Oh, I have even watched Pontianak Sundal Harum Malam (is that the title? The one starring Maya Karin?). That movie wasn’t that good but it got into some international movie competition didn’t it? And our very own Maya Karin won awards for playing the Pontianak. So let’s ban horror movies eh? Ironically, our local horror movie actually got our country into the international movie scene.

I see horror movies as a way to escape reality. Whenever I am down or upset, I watch horror movie, because by doing so, I wouldn’t think of what upset me and the problem would at least stop plaguing me for awhile. The adrenaline rush while watching a horror or slasher flick is exciting (beware, I may be a sadist for all you know.) to me.

And since we have the Censorship Board, isn’t that enough already? To edit scenes which are too scary or gruesome. And by doing so it actually minimize the scare factor just so the weaker hearts and the younger people can watch horror movie.
If the reason is, it’s not good for health or so. I suggest those with weak hearts or individuals who can’t take horror movie to avoid horror movie for good. I mean, why torture yourself if you can’t take it?

Overall, I think it is not a wise idea to ban horror movie. Horror movie fans would definitely hold a rally if they do and furthermore, our local movie scene depended on Pontianak Sundal Harum Malam to make it to the international movie scene.

So let’s just leave horror movies alone for now, please?
