WATCH OUT... for the "Putpockets"?

Yes, we have to watch out for the putpockets, instead of pickpockets!! Now, there is a new postive phenomenon on the rise - the putpocket. The putpockets operate by putting money into other people's pocket, the total opposite of pickpocket. Now former pickpockets are becoming a putpockets, slipping money back into unsuspecting people's pockets. Recently, in London, 20 former pickpockets have transformed into putpockets.

"It feels good to give something back for a change -- and Britons certainly
need it in the current economic climate," said Chris Fitch, a former pickpocket
who now heads TalkTalk's putpocketing initiative.
"Every time I put money
back in someone's pocket, I feel less guilty about the fact I spent many years
taking it out."

However, this only applies to the people in London as it's all part of a campaign run by broadband provider in London, TalkTalk to "give something back to cash-strapped customer." They'll be giving away a total of £100,000 Anything from £5 to £20 notes are being surreptitiously deposited in unguarded pockets or open handbags in Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden and other busy spots. Until the end of this month the putpockets are only operating in London, but they'll start working the whole country (England only!!) after that. This is a really good initiative, especially in transforming former stealers into givers. Thus lowering the rates of pickpockets (since they are transforming into putpockets) and at the same time, giving smiles to people's face and give them something different, something to hope for, especially in this current economic downturn. However, i quote a commentary in the Star, saying that we must not let our guard down, just because there is a putpocket (to ease the putpocket in slipping money in), by exposing ourselves, like letting our i.e handbang hanging open or exposing our pocket. That is like a recipe for disaster, if there happens to be a real pickpocket who come around. A big success for him!! However, I wonder if the putpockets were discovered for putting their hand into other people's pocket, wouldn't the people will mistake him as a pickpocket.

Nonetheless, the pick is, that London's Metropolitian Police Service (MPS) denied the company's claim that it had informed the police in advance of the campaign. A TalkTalk spokesman told AFP that the company's claim that the police had been forewarned was based on an informal conversation, but any confusion had now been “cleared up”.

It is good now that the police issue had cleared up. I think the putpocket initiative is a good idea, to help people during the economic downturn, to give hope, and most especially to teach and give awareness to the former or pickpockets 'to be' about the positive feelings of being pickpockets. So that they will avoid choosing picpocketing as a career. However, there is still a bad side to this, if it runs too long - this campaign- as the pickpockets will make use of the act of peaople being less on guard wating for something from the putpocket. And if the pickpocket were caught, they will say, "i am actually putpocketing", and it will be hard for the authority, especially the court to decide the truthness of that statement. Thus, I think the putpocket initiatives, should not run too long or the criminals will make use of it. Also, people will start being lazy, waiting for the piece of miracle to appear in their pocket... although that will be rare i suppose.

Imagine, suddenly our pocket becomes magically uprgraded with money that comes out of nowhere!! That would be awesome!!
Anyway, still, don't get our hopes high for the immergence of the putpocket in Malaysia, since there is still no news of them coming here.lol >o<
